Known as the Californian Foothill Pine Ghost Pine or Digger Pine this pine is native to California where it can be found growing along the Sierra Nevada and Coastal Ranges

From a distance this pine has a grey appearance and sports the second largest cone that have strongly recurved scales

it does not cope with heavy frosts but will tolerate light ones

growing in interior valleys and foothills from Siskiyou County to San Diego County where it is most abundant in rich deep soils of valley floors below 600 meters in elevation

A tall maple deciduous from eastern North America that is noted for silvery effect from both its bark and undersides of the large multi-dissected leaves

The tree flowers in late spring with masses of small creamy white flowers, followed by yellow to brown fruits that persist well into winter. Rare in Australia and rarely offered.
