I am concerned with the constructs of alchemy, transmutation, geometry, and colour symbolism. The esoteric aspects of Surrealism, particularly the writings of André Breton.
The works themselves are essentially a prolonged meditation of the ‘ENIGMA ’of life itself, portrayed in nature (tree, shell, stone, human form etc) myth, Eros and Thanatos, intuition, endless curiosity and finding self-enlightenment.
‘Stones-above all hard stones-continue to speak to those who want to hear them. To each of them, they hold a language in its measure-through that which (man) knows they instruct him of that which he longs to know’.
André Breton
Breton appears to the STONES as a path towards a higher knowledge and the quest of the PHILOSOPHER’S STONE.
‘I am at the centre of time and I surround space.’
Paul Eluard
‘What is at the end is like what is at the beginning. What is at the bottom is like what is at the top.’
Hermes Trismegistus
‘The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious.’
Albert Einstein
Like Breton who wrote, ‘I seek the Gold of time, here is part of my journey’s findings so far. Enough of words, let the paintings do the talking.
