OPPORTUNITIES/ OPEN CALL

RePUBlic Gallery is delighted to offer opportunities for emerging artists to exhibit in PUBlic Windows!

The PUBlic Window micro-gallery is a venture to display art in unexpected or opportunistic spaces to increase public engagement with art. The first PUBlic window gallery originated in the rePUBlic Gallery during lockdown. With the travelling PUBlic windows they are free standing and can be installed almost anywhere. The first round of PUBlic windows were generously funded by Heart of Blyth and located in Blyth Library, The Old School Gallery in Alnmouth and the NCA in Newcastle. See image below before they were transported to their first locations with art by Ghostcat, Matthew Dowell and Tommy Keenan.

The intention is that the art can rotate between the ‘windows’ – providing longer and wider exposure for the artists. The windows can also signpost each other to encourage travel around the region. The location of the next PUBlic windows are yet to be confirmed. See our instagram to find current locations.

We are looking for exciting and imaginative proposals from emerging artists to display their work in The PUBlic Window. These don’t have to be finished artworks, you could use the window box as a place to test out an idea or even display a maquette of something you hope to make in the future. It could be a sculpture filling the space or a small delicate drawing – we are open to all ideas!

The work you plan to exhibit should be ready, or very nearly, ready to go!

Dimensions of The PUBlic Window = 770mm x 395mm and 150mm deep with a ply back panel. (see image below) You are welcome to include the back panel in your proposals.

TO APPLY, please prepare the following and email to info@republicgallery.co.uk (please attach files as PDFs):
