The PUBlic Window: Isabel Garfield

Isabel Garfield is a visual artist working across painting, drawing, installation and printmaking. Isabel completed her BA in Fine Art at Newcastle University and graduated from the Royal Drawing School earlier this year.

Isabel’s practice looks at the way in which our memories and dreams connect to our everyday lived experiences. She is interested in what constitutes a real, waking space and how this ultimately becomes a blend of reality and fiction.

In this PUBlic window, Isabel combines observational drawings and paintings with imagined subject matter. The window depicts an intimate interior scene comprised of multiple drawings and paintings, some of which appear to be floating. Isabel thinks of these floating drawings as thoughts or memories, existing alongside reality. As the daylight changes, the shadows cast across the window continue to blur the lines between these realms.
