Time Was Away & Somewhere Else
Time Was Away & Somewhere Else investigates my ongoing preoccupation with memory and urban landscapes on the cusp of erasure.
‘Distant tower blocks in the mist; traffic scarce; side streets, poorly lit, if lit at all… everything closed, simultaneously dead and tense with emptiness – unaware, as yet, of the approaching lights and
construction sites.’
– Michael Bracewell, Souvenir
Time Was Away & Somewhere Else comprises images from two bodies of work:
Painterly Alignments in the Fabric of Reality: a series of urban landscape studies in which space, weather and the effects of time combine to make the world look like a painting.
As It Is When It Was: fragments of the city. This series was initially a response to the colourful Polaroid work of Walker Evans
