The PUBlic Window: LIBERTY HODES

SHELL-O-RAMA
2024
Liberty Hodes is a multi-disciplinary Artist and facilitator based in Newcastle. They make fizzy, impatient, ideas-first work which usually balances itself between Performance, Sculpture and Video; often underpinned by a strong sense of place. Within their practice, they are interested in processing the contemporary everyday world through the language and traditions of British Folk Culture.
Shell-O-Rama borrows both from British Seaside Souvenir shell figurines and Model Villages – still dioramas that stand frozen and un-changing whilst the world moves by around them. In this work, Hodes explores how object-based folk traditions can capture a mundane moment as a snapshot in time and how humans use objects as performers to relay stories of the everyday.
